Workplace Learning Connection with Cheryl Valenta
Join Eastern Iowa Chapter—STC for an informational presentation on the benefits of partnering with the Workplace Learning Connection (WLC) to inform and collaborate with the next generation of professional writers.
Established in 1998, Workplace Learning Connection (WLC) is a department of Kirkwood Community College. WLC provides career exploration experiences for middle and high school students by collaborating with professionals who share their expertise on careers within their industry. Students learn about various occupations through work based learning activities including job shadows, tours, career fairs, events and internships. Each year over 3,200 students sign up with WLC requesting career information through job shadows and internship programs.Cheryl Valenta is Event Coordinator/Business Liaison for Workplace Learning Connection – Kirkwood Community College. In her role, she organizes career exploration events for school districts in seven Eastern Iowa counties. In particular, Workplace Learning Center partners with agriscience and environmental businesses to provide career exploration experiences for high school students. COST Chapter meetings are open to the public. STC members and students are asked to pay a $5 program fee. Non-STC members are asked to pay a $10 program fee. Attendees are responsible for their own dinner and beverage costs (typically $10-$20).
